My husband is forever being asked to design a "Hamptons House" for his clients. I blame the movie "Something's Gotta Give" and Martha Stewart among others. Now you Americans out there, yes, you can take a pat on the back for inventing this enduring, classicly elegant look.
Today he asked me again for some visual cues and I gave him the pic of Diane Keaton's living room in SGG.
What I want to know is where did it come from?
Have you Hamptons fans got some inspiring pics of the outside of these houses you could share with me?
(I have posted this one on the dunes before but I just love it.)
Mmmm.. I wouldn't mind a Hamptons House either but first I better win tattslotto!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos
Alison
Julia at Hooked on Houses did a whole long blog on the SGG house http://hookedonhouses.net/2009/05/04/the-beach-house-in-somethings-gotta-give/ -
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of almost-Hamptons houses here in California, almost as though they are design by default. Very popular in developments, just missing on proportion, balance, and real shingles...
oh darling, that makes two of us :)
ReplyDeleteToo funny - watched this movie yet again at the weekend - love it, love the house, just don't want Jack N wandering around in the buff in it!
ReplyDeleteI'm an American in the Redlands, QLD and I've just SOLD my "renovated" Hampton Style House. I'm now in the process of designing a new Hampton Style House which we hope to start building before the end of the year. Traditional Home is one of the magazines I love and get lots of ideas from. Also take a look at COTE DE TEXAS for she did an article on the design set for SGG.
ReplyDeleteI want a Hampton's House. But I want it to be on a windswept beach, surrounded by nothing but sky, dunes and stunted plants. The idea of one in a development is just wrong, wrong, wrong.
ReplyDeleteMe Toooooooooo! Hubby?

I adore that movie and always hit 'pause' on my DVR when it plays so I can take extended looks at the decor! Our last home was a lovely Cape Cod style which is about as close as I've come to having one. It was on 2 acres but minus the beach. next time....
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't want one of those beautiful Hampton homes... Oh dream, dream, dream....
ReplyDeleteBeing from Florida , the old Florida , I think the Hamptons look is pure yankee sensibility . Slipcovers on the furniture for wet suits , high ceilings so that hot air can rise , SGG is my favorite beach house and I have studied it . A nod to easy living and nothing too pretentious.
ReplyDeletesigh. I want that first one.
ReplyDeleteAhh..daydreaming...
ReplyDeleteI want one too
