The Screened Porch

I had never heard of screened porches until saw Grace Coddington's in a magazine many years ago. I have wanted one ever since. A friend of mine who lives in a mozzie-prone area near the beach has one and she lives out there most of the year.
We are planning such a porch at the end of our school house which will look out across the fields to the mountains. Here are some inspiring examples I thought I'd share.

  1. I have been trying to convince hubby to screen our deck, thereby creating a screened porch (if not quite so glamorous as these ones). I think they make perfect sense when the nights are long and hot and full of mossies. I will persist. Wish me luck...

  2. Catherine - I love these images. We rarely get to use our outdoor area because if it isn't too cold then the flies & mozzies are carrying us away so I have been contemplating doing the same on our deck, however when I describe it to my husband he has trouble imagining it beyond a Spanline type room (not that there is anything wrong with them - they just wouldn't suit our old cottage)so I will show him your photo's. Thank you for the inspiration...

  3. I absolutely love a screened porch. My grandparents used to have a huge one when I was a kid. We used to sleep on feather beds under handmade quilts out there. Perfect!

  9. Thank you for these photos... we have a screened deck and have puzzled over what to do with it for a while now. Some inspiration in those pictures for sure.
