My husband says I have a thing for chairs. My bounty from a day out at garage sales or op shops will usually include at least one chair (or maybe three!).
These things I have photographed are a few of the vintage items I am currently doing up for various projects. The bentwood is for the Sydney house, the orange cane chair is for the beach cottages. It is part of a bedroom set I found last week - that's the bedhead behind.
The gypsy table is a classic. You don't see them much these days but they look great in beach houses and are so practical. I don't know whether to leave it as it is or paint it... What do you think?
I think it would great painted. I share your obsession with chairs too. x
ReplyDeleteIf you're taking it to the beach, I'd leave it the colour it is. Love the Bentwood. My Nan had some of these & how I'd love to have them now. They were a wonderful mix of brown/black (charcoal perhaps) & were so comfy to sit on ... years of bums on seats perhaps?
ReplyDeletei'm also obsessed with chairs... found some french style in a throw out yesterday which i've just been painting. love having different kinds around the dining table. love the cane one in your photo!
ReplyDeletei'd leave the table as is. it has a great color to it. and love the chairs!
ReplyDeleteI love the chairs and the table is great. The red chair and table are perfect as they are; perhaps I'd restore the bentwood chair bring it back to life and let its beauty shine through :))
ReplyDeleteI think I would paint the table for it's own protection but in similar colours..the blue is georgeous and so beachy!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds, I love seeing the bentwood chairs painted a nice glossy black!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
I might leave the table as it is. What a great patina. As for the Bentwood? Why not paint it to match the orange chair. You can start an orange convention around some lucky dining table.

chairs, glorious chairs. i have more than i will ever need for sitting. so i am not surprised that i am lusting after both of the chairs you photographed. that table is precious, too. that blue/green on the top is loverly (unless its just worn white). if i painted it at all, i would definitely leave the top as is.
ReplyDeleteLove your finds - anything bamboo is charming and classic!
ReplyDeleteI'm not allowed to go to clearance sales anymore due to my ability to buy chairs!! But they look too good to leave - when we move into our home - they will all be re-upolstered and painted! Annie xo http://mywhitehomestead.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteHi! I loved your blog.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds. I'm in love by the orange chair.

Hi. I have been away the last couple of days doing more house stories for the glossy magazines. Thanks for your opinions - its great to get some feedback. I have just driven back from the country for nearly 6 hours so its off to bed.
ReplyDeleteI do love it the way it is but I cant help but think of it with white shabby legs....
ReplyDeleteMy thing is for tables. We have a house full of tables. Perhaps we can get together...
ReplyDeleteYou're not alone with the chair obsession, yes I too am a chair-aholic. Some chairs have come and gone from my life but I have had two chairs in particular which have moved house, were half sanded, put in storage but finally I finished the second one of these last year and they are both residing in my house after all these years and I love them both!
ReplyDeleteOn the table - I think keep the legs in their original condition and repaint the top in the same hue of blue and it should look fabulous!
You an me both, and the strange thing I have 2 chairs very similar to these.
